The Nebraska Coast Connection hosts Filmmaker Nik Fackler at the next Salon on Monday night…

Filmmaker, musician, artist, and blogger Nik Fackler will be joining us at the March Salon on Monday. Nik stopped by the NCC holiday party as our special guest, and as promised he’s coming back for a full Salon evening to share more of his tales and talents as the newest young hot filmmaker from Omaha. He’s fresh from the Spirit Awards, where he was nominated for writing and directing his very first feature LOVELY, STILL.LOVELY, STILL stars Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn (not to mention the beautiful city of Omaha, where it was shot!). If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a remarkable first film — we’ll show you a scene or two Monday night. Nik also just directed a new music video for BRIGHT EYES, and has a bunch of other projects in the works to tell us about. See his great blog at nikfackler.com for photos, clips and more.

He’s a real talent, and a real nice guy, too, so come and hang with Nik before he gets any more busy and famous.

See you at the Culver on Monday, March 14th.

It’s a Nebraska Coast Valentine…
as we welcome back our old friend, filmmaker & Slamdancer Dan Mirvish!

Happy Valentine’s Day, !

Monday, February 14th – come join your friends at the NCC Salon for a sweet evening with our very own Valentine, Dan Mirvish.

Dan is an award-winning director, screenwriter, producer and critically-acclaimed author, as well as being the co-founder of the Slamdance Film Festival.  He’s freshly back from Park City, and will fill us in on all the insider scoop on the Slamdance and Sundance Festivals this year. After debuting with his first feature, the infamous OMAHA (THE MOVIE), Dan actually changed the rules at the Academy Awards with his film musicals OPEN HOUSE and HALF EMPTY, and made international headlines with his political stunts during the 2008 presidential campaign.  His next big project is underway now and he’ll share his secrets of film financing with us tonight.

Labeled a “cheerful subversive” by The New York Times, and “Hollywood’s Bad Boy” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mirvish has been named as one of Variety’s Top 50 Creatives to Watch, as well as one of Film Festival Today’s Top 25 Most Influential People in Independent Film.
Bon bons and roses are overrated.  Come to the Salon tonight and hang with one of our coolest Nebraska filmmakers. Hope to see you at the Culver TONIGHT — Monday, Feb 14th.

Holt McCallany in the role of boxer Patrick “Lights” Leary

Holt McCallany stars in FX’s Lights Out

Creighton Prep grad and Nebraska native Holt McCallany stars in a new boxing drama Lights Out, which premiers on the FX Network Tuesday night, January 9, 2011, co-staring Stacy Keach.

From the Omaha World-Hearald, January 8, 2011, By Bob Fischbach.

Lights Out is the story of a struggling former heavyweight champion tempted to return to the ring to support his wife and daughters, a part McCallany says he was born to play–as a kid in Omaha McCallany took up boxing with his younger brother, now-deceased Golden Gloves champ Michael McAloney and as the son of show biz parents McCallany was drawn to acting at an early age.

Among his inspirations: “Alexander Payne was a year ahead of me at Prep,” McCallany said of the Oscar-winning director-screenwriter. “He was an honors student, considered brilliant. I was considered a juvenile delinquent who would amount to nothing.”

McCallany is the son of legendary actress and cabaret singer Julie Wilson, an Omaha native, and the late Broadway actor and Tony-winning producer Michael McAloney (“Borstal Boy”).
