Monday, October 9, 2006

Are you a little homesick for Nebraska? Come to the Salon on Monday, and we’ll fix you right up…Our next Salon will feature the music of Brad Colerick and his new hit album, Cottonwood.  It’s full of memories of downhome Nebraska: the Platte, lonesome stretches of I-80, sunsets and cottonwoods.  Cottonwood has gotten rave reviews since its release last year. Phil Sweetland of The New York Times wrote “In his insightful, autobiographical Cottonwood, Colerick has taken a musical journey home in 11 magnificently understated, rootsy tracks…” calls Brad’s CD “a very impressive collection of songs , all written or co-written by Colerick, and all featuring simple, but exquisitley crafted melodies, and delivered in a voice that simply exudes California sunshine. Beautiful, soaring harmonies, and excellent playing…”  The AP calls it  “a delight…sweet, beautiful.”  Read all the reviews and even play samples on  Brad also has his own successful record label, Back 9 Records, and he co-founded DeepMix, one of Hollywood’s hottest music supervision companies. Brad has produced music for films and commercials, including with artists like Johnny Cash, Amy Grant, Buddy Guy and many more.  We’ll be treated to a LIVE mini-concert from Brad at the Salon Monday. Plus, you’ll have the chance to win a CD copy of Cottonwood (and you can probably twist Brad’s arm into selling you one and signing it, too).  We’ll have wine & cheese appetizers and some great brand new raffle prizes.  Our very musical Hollywood Salon is Monday, October 9th!  CHECK OUT OUR WEBSITE FOR DETAILS, RSVP INFO and MORE…  Come to the Salon to meet friends. A Behind the Scenes look at the Pageant of the Masters

Monday, June 12th, 2006

The Hollywood Salon is going artsy on Monday!   Since the 1930s, one of the biggest and most beloved summer traditions in Southern California has been the annual Pageant of the Masters at the Laguna Arts Festival.  It is an amazing experience of living pictures — incredibly faithful art re- creations of classical and contemporary works with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. An outdoor amphitheater, professional orchestra, original score, live narration, intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, expert staff, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have won recognition for the Pageant as the best presentation of its kind. This annual summer event sells out every year.  And did you know that for years, a bunch of Nebraskans have been part of bringing it to life? Several of them will be on hand with us to tell us their behind-the-scenes stories of the Pageant of the Masters. Master Carpenter and Stage Crew Chief Jay Skovec (David City, NE) will show a film about the creating of the elaborate sets that contain the living reproductions. Janelle Frese (Husker softball champ) and her family will tell about performing in the tableaus. And we’ll have a tribute to late Nebraskan Thurl Ravenscroft who was the voice of the Pageant for years (as well as the voice of Tony the Tiger!)  It will be a night of fun, and you just might find out how to get a coveted ticket to this summer’s Pageant (or the inside track on becoming part of future shows).
