The Hollywood Salon with Ramsey Avery, Production Designer

August 11, 2025 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm PDT
$10.00 – $15.00

This month, we’re excited to welcome an accomplished production designer with a rich background across film, television, stage, theme parks, and commercials. From intimate sets to large-scale spectacles, this month’s special guest brings experience, vision, and narrative depth to every project. Join us at the upcoming Hollywood Salon on Monday, August 11th at 8pm to hear about his eclectic background that spans over three decades!

RAMSEY AVERY is a Production Designer & an accomplished creative who has worked in multiple realms of entertainment design, from commercials to sitcoms to theme parks, and from tiny indie films to prestige streamers and tentpole features. His most recent completed project was as the Supervising Production Designer for an epic re-telling of the Ramayana for DNEG, filmed in Mumbai.

In addition to designing CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, Ramsey’s other recent work includes the film NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU with Kaitlyn Dever and the television series THE CONSULTANT for Amazon/MGM, directed by Matt Shakman and starring Christoph Waltz. He won an Art Directors Guild Award for Production Design for his design of the Amazon series, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER.

While he started in college as an astrophysics major, Avery caught the theater bug. After receiving an MFA in Theater Set Design from CalArts, he began his career the day after graduation art directing and set decorating for the television series A DIFFERENT WORLD and then adding ROSEANNE the following year.

He would segue into the role of art director on the future-worlds of MINORITY REPORT and A.I., and would soon become the supervising art director on feature films including TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE, STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS, TOMORROWLAND, PIXELS, MIRROR, MIRROR, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, VOL. 2, among others.

In addition, he has designed numerous national commercials including a Super Bowl spot for Dodge. He was nominated for an Art Directors Guild Award for his design of the live action trailer for THE BEE MOVIE.

Avery designed the popular Avenger’s Campus for the Disneyland Resort California Adventure, including the Webslingers multimedia interactive attraction. A previous design of his, the Animation Pavilion, also at California Adventure, won a Thea Award, the themed entertainment equivalent of an Oscar®. He has contributed to other attractions and events around the world, including a Don Quixote attraction in Japan, the original Winterlit holiday street decorations for the City of Santa Monica, CA, and a royal Saudi Wedding in Riyadh.

Along the way, he has kept a hand in theater, designing award-winning regional theater sets from California to New York, as well as a national Christmas tour, based on projected environments, for the singer, Martina McBride.

He is currently figuring out (with help of an amazing team of designers and artisans) how to create the in- and outsides of a giant, scientifically accurate creature as a functioning set.

Never boring, the field of production design!
