The Hollywood Salon with UNL’s Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts

October 9 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm PDT

In One Week – Monday, October 9th, 2023 at 8:00pm PT
The Hollywood Salon at The Aster
Special Guests: UNL Carson Center Emerging Media Arts

We took the Salon to Lincoln in May…now Lincoln comes to Hollywood! UNL’s Carson Center EMA students are innovative dreamers wanting to share their latest works with YOU. At October’s Salon, you’ll connect with creators embarking on their path with brand new storytelling ideas supported by cutting edge training & tech.

As a seasoned artist in LA & beyond, your knowledge is priceless to those starting out. We invite you to come, connect, & meet the new UNL folks at a unique location: the swanky private club in the Heart of Hollywood, The Aster.

UNL’s CARSON CENTER for EMA is bringing top students to present innovative projects at the October Salon. They will be accompanied by UNL staff, faculty, & administration. See their work and hear what’s coming next at the Carson Center & Carson School from the new Dean & new Director.

You’ll recognize a lot of faces in attendance this month, with more special guests in one Salon than ever! The students are being matched with industry pros in their career areas for the second annual Carson Connectors Reception, taking place prior at the private social club, The Aster. The Salon will follow at 8pm at The Aster, 1717 Vine Street.

MEGAN ELLIOTT is the founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts and is the Johnny Carson Endowed Director in Emerging Media Arts. She was previously the manager of leadership and community connections at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia and former director and CEO of digital media think-tank X Media Lab.

HANK STRATTON is a professor and the director of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and executive director of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre. He comes to Nebraska from the University of Arizona, where he was head of acting/musical theatre and the artistic director of the Arizona Rep. You may recognize Hank as an actor in Hollywood, with credits including HAWAII FIVE-0MACGYVERNYPD BLUEFRASIER, and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

DEAN ANDY BELSER is attending as the new UNL Dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. He was previously director of and professor in the School of Theatre, Film and Television and led arts and medicine initiatives at the University of Arizona. Prior to Arizona, Belser was a professor of movement, voice and acting in the BFA & MFA acting program at Pennsylvania State University, where he taught and researched at the intersection of cognitive neuroscience and performance. In addition to Dean Belser, several additional faculty members from the Carson Center will be attending on Monday.

THE ASTER – THIS MONTH ONLY we’ll be meeting at this private social club at Hollywood & Vine. With vibrant, eclectic decor and unique experiences around every corner, The Aster is a purpose-driven social club inspired by the passion of the artistic communities that built the grit & glory of Hollywood. It’s terrific that we’re being invited into this exclusive private club, and we can’t wait to share the experience with you. PARKING: Metered parking is available, free after 8pm. Public and private lots are also located nearby. Valet parking is available at The Aster for $15.

Come, meet, and welcome the new folks from UNL. Cheer on the Carson students and see their brand-new work. There will be more salon guests at this Salon than ever before. There will be more press and media attention than ever! Join us and help make this THE Salon of our 30th year!
