Jim Crotty’s Documentary Preview

Monday, July 7, 2010

July’s Salon will give you a sneak peek at a documentary in progress…and your feedback is needed! Come help shape the making of an exciting new project…

Jim Crotty is an acclaimed writer and media entrepreneur, who NCCers will know from his work with Monk Media (monkmedia.net). He is well-underway with a new career as documentary filmmaker, and he is coming to the Salon in July to share his latest work with the NCC.

CROTTY’S KIDS follows six urban debaters from the South Bronx and their unlikely coach (Mr Crotty himself). Told with humor and suspense, the film follows this unlikely team of debaters as they evolve from content-light amateurs to critical thinking heavyweights. We’ll be showing excerpts from the film, and Jim will take us through his process of getting it made. Editors and Producers: Jim is looking for collaborators!

Omaha-native James Crotty is best known as cofounder, editor, and publisher of Monk: the Mobile Magazine. He is the author of several books, including “How To Talk American,” “The USA Phrasebook,” and co-author with Michael Lane of “Mad Monks on the Road,” “The Mad Monks’ Guide to New York City,” and “The Mad Monks’ Guide to California.” From 1998-2000, Crotty and Lane were also Playboy.com’s chief travel and culture correspondents.

The July Salon is Monday, July 12th at the Culver Hotel in Culver City. See you there!
